What’s on in Rochester this week?

This week across Rochester, a range of low-pressure community activities reflects local rhythms rather than curated spectacle. On Tuesday evening at Otham Community Hall, caregivers and children under ten are invited to join an interactive storytelling session hosted by the Medway Family Arts Group. The event focuses on shared listening through simple props and movement, no performance required, and takes place in a room accessible from both High Street and River Walk. Wednesday sees acoustic music at Amber Fields Library’s small hall, where local musicians play open-mic style sets between 6:30pm and 8:15pm; no tickets are sold, seating is first-come-first-served. On Thursday evening in the former Swiss Chalet building, a venue now used by community volunteers, adults can attend a hands-on workshop on basic digital literacy using donated tablets from Rochester Digital Access Initiative.

Saturday features informal comedy at The River Grange pub, just outside the city near the High Street end of Medway Bridge, where performers read short observational pieces over pints. No formal booking is needed; guests sit in small groups and engage with material as they wish. Sunday includes a family-friendly craft session run by volunteers from Rochester Green Space Alliance in the Riverside Pavilion area, supplies are provided on site for participants aged five to twelve.

These events take place across established community spaces, including former school halls now used by local organisations. Parking remains limited near most venues; residents advise using buses or walking routes along designated pathways between Otham and High Street areas.
